Recently my wife and I walked Phase 1 of the Cashiers Greenway Ramble (a 1 mile loop). We couldn't be more pleased with the planning and work that went into bringing this in to reality.
We went into the Chamber of Commerce at the end of our hike, but if you start inside, you can pickup a flyer with a trail map. Starting off at the Chamber of Commerce, we followed the gravel path with Ramble markers and pathway lighting.
Not sure where to go, spy the Ramble markers (shown at right) to find your way, which is possible to do if you don't have a map. Some of the pathway transitions have some attractive trellis work done (see photos).
This section is through a tree canopy and a respite from the heat of the sun. Just ahead there's a fork in the path. Go left and it will take you over to Hotel Cashiers, Slabtown Pizza and the other shops and stores there. We went right taking us through the shopping center with Zoller Hardware on our right, following up and behind Whiteside Brewing and through The Wells Hotel (also shaded) and behind Buck's coffee. It dawned on us what a terrific way for the Ramble to bring attention to so many of our favorite places in Cashiers.
The Ramble is a loop so the trail takes you back toward the Crossings of Cashiers and along Hwy 64. The trail takes you back to the Greenway start, but you'll want to detour and incorporate The Village Green to extend your hike.
If you've got little ones with you this is a perfect time to let their energy loose at the recently renovated playground. We hadn't seen the completed boardwalk so we rambled along to where the boardwalk transitioned to the Green and where the Cashiers Green Market was being held (Wednesdays from 11am - 3pm). Just our luck! With bagged pastries, and a thorough education on mushroom farming, we looped back through the Green and to Hwy 64 following the new sidewalk back to our car at the Chamber of Commerce.
We can't wait to see what the next phase will bring. The photos here focus mostly on the trail and does a disservice to the beautiful flowers and plantings, memorial gardens that we took in all along the way.
