Stewart Taylor opened Stewby's Seafood Shanty continuing a family legacy in the area for affordable and local seafood dating back to the late 1960s with Sam's Oyster House. And as a two-for-one (i.e .two great places for one great local seafood). Scooter's is a second location in Navarre close to the intersection of Hwy 87 and Hwy 98, just 6 miles away from the Seahorse Retreat and Palm Breeze Beach House. Stewby's Seafood Shanty is a little farther of the two locations 11 miles away in Fort Walton Beach (427 Racetrack Rd NW, Fort Walton Beach) a good option when doing shopping at Lowe's or Walmart in Fort Walton Beach and you have a seafood craving.

We recently visited Scooter's Fish House on our way home back to Atlanta after a quick sprint to look after the two vacation homes. It was a great way to reward ourselves before getting on the road. You can eat inside or take your order to go. We chose to eat in where there were plenty of picnic-style tables.
The fish is the freshest local seafood. We recommend looking at the menu at the specials to see the local catch. The fish comes straight off the boats in Destin and surrounding areas.
We got an order of grilled shrimp and each of us got the grilled fish of the day, which was Mahi Mahi. Other often-found "Fish of the Day" specials you'll find include, amberjack, wahoo and other available seasonal fish.
You can order your fished fried as well, but we like the chargrilled taste and seasoning. Dinner plates come with choice of sides and hush puppies. We got the cheese grits and the potato salad. Other choices include French fries, fried okra, fried onions, BBQ beans, cole slaw and lettuce wedge with tomato.
Scooter's has available a la carte seafood gumbo, Caesar salad (with or without shrimp, fish or chicken, side calamari, side fried shrimp (12), jumbo grilled shrimp (8), oysters, side fish (3), side soft shell crab (1), or side chicken (5).
