One of the things that makes the Seahorse Retreat and Palm Breeze Beach House unique is the wildlife you might encounter when visiting. Although each home is on just ½ acre, it’s Florida, and plants and critters thrive, so don’t be surprised if you see the following:
Dolphins – look for them near the dock or further in the Sound
Pelicans – they fly low and swoop in to catch fish
Butterflies – they love our flowers!
Hummingbirds – they are attracted to the red hibiscus flowers and red bottlebrush blossoms
Lizards (blue, green, black) - they skitter along the walls and pathways – don’t blink or you might miss them
Crabs – depending on the season, you’ll find them scurrying across the sand
Resident blue heron – we call him that because when we’re there we always see a blue heron silently, gracefully, stealthily stroll down our beach – usually in the morning. We’re not sure if he’s the same one that’s been coming each year, but we like to think so. He’s always scouting for fish.
Black bear – Yes, this did happen one November several years ago. A black bear meandered across Highway 98 onto our beach and left big footprints in the sand! Haven’t seen him since, though, but it’s a fun story to tell.
